Fridays Fences

Todays fence is at Patsy Durack's Rose Garden in Goosberry Hill, a suberb up in the Perth Hills. The rose garden itself is magnificently kept by Patsy and her husband. It is open to the public and such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon wandering through the hundreds of different varieties of roses.

PS. I have a problem when I am trying to enlarge more than 2 or 3 pics.  The blue bar with the sizing options seems to hide, any ideas would be welcome.  You can enlarge them by clicking on them. Thanks

Monday Mural

Todays mural can be found on the wall of the Shire Council Offices at Carnamah in Western Australia. This mural caught my eye instantly when we visited there some months ago.

Hardy Inlet, Augusta

This pic came up on my screensaver so thought it would make an ideal entry for Skywatch Friday and Fridays Fences. Taken at dusk at the Hardy Inlet where the Blackwood River joins into the Southern Ocean at Augusta in Western Australias South West.

Monday Mural

I have only just found this meme and as I have quite a few murals in my photo collection it is a good opportunity to join in. This mural is found in Moora, a town in Western Australia's wheatbelt area. It honours the early settlers of the day and pays homage to the Clydesdale horse which were used as work horses on the land. Wattle It Be

It is a cold wet day here today (mind you, I am not complaining) so this Wattle (Acacia) which is now starting to come into flower  around the district makes a cheerful addition to http://mondaymellowyellows.blogspot.com.au/
This pic was snapped on one of my walks last week

This Mornings Walk

My day started a little sluggishly this morning. I didn't wake till 7am, must have needed the sleep.By the time I had got up and showered and had breakfast it was around 9-30. I had said to HOM yesterday that we should walk to the town dam today and he kept me to it. It is a small dam which supplies water for the watering of the parks and ovals in town. Our drinking water comes from the main Kalgoorlie Pipeline, which was quite an engineering feat when it opened in the 1900's . The pipeline runs around 600klm from Perth to Kalgoorlie in the goldfields. Anyway we eventually found the dam by following the water channel from Christmas Rock. It was a beautiful morning for walking through the bush. I must admit we did take the shorter way back to town along the road. By the time we arrived back to town we had covered 6 klm, so a stop off at the bakery for a coffee was in order. I needed that so I could walk the final 1 klm home.

Water is channeled from Christmas Rock down to the dam. We followed this and knew we would eventually come out near the dam

The track takes us through bushland and Salmon Gums

Mt Matilda Walk Trail

This morning HOM & I, along with another couple went on a 3 hour bush walk along the Mount Matilda Walk Trail in the Wongan Hills. Our guide was Ian, an extremely fit 84 year old. Being new to town he offered to show us the area. Ian has been taking tourists around the local area for many years now. His knowledge of the plant life is second to none. Some rare species of plants are found only in this area and he is keen to share with anyone who is interesed. I do not however remember any of the botanical names he gave but I do know that when we walk this trail again I will have a greater appreciation. There are very few plants in flower at present but they do start to bloom from June to November, so a monthly walk of the area will be in order. We did however spot an echidna in the bush, Ian showed us various spider webs, some of which I had never heard of before. There is a curtain spider, pebble spider and also the trapdoor which I have heard of.

Fridays Fences

Todays fence comes from Greenough in Western Australia. Inside of the fence is The Leaning Tree, one of many in the area growing along the ground due to the strong winds that have shaped them over the years.

This Morning's Walk

All was calm this morning after yesterday's strong winds and rain. A cool, crisp morning so it was ideal walking weather, so we walked along the road to the airstrip. I wanted to check out whether any of the bush shrubs were beginning to flower. I found a couple of early bloomers so it won't be long now before more colour brightens up the road verges and bushland. From the airstrip we took a track which came out on Christmas Rock which was filled with rock pools of water.

Ressurrection bush changes colour once the rains come. Last time I was there they were brown. Now they are becoming a bright orange colour.

CWA Raffle

Yesterday morning HOM (husband of mine)  and I walked into town to get the paper and pick up a prescription from the chemist. The local CWA (Country Womens Association) were selling raffle tickets so I thought , lets support them. The prizes were all garden related.  I bought 2 tickets  and  said to HOM on the way home that I had more chance of winning the raffle than what I would the lotto.  This morning I had a phone call telling me I had won 1st prize, which was a wheelbarrow filled with garden bits and pieces. Spade, rake, fertilizer, gloves, pruners, hose, solar lights etc.  It is ages since I have won anything so I am over the moon about winning this. It will all come in handy as I am trying to whip our garden into shape. I still have my fingers crossed for the lotto tonight, but won't be holding my breath.

Fridays Fences

This is a nearby neighbours fence. I don't know the people but I am assuming, which maybe I shouldn't, that they were farmers who have moved into town. Inside the fence are corrugated iron cut outs of sheep and down the other end is the sheep dog rounding them up.

Welcome Rain

Last night, after days of promises the heavens opened and we have had some welcome rain to our little neck of the woods. On the way back from Perth yesterday a lot of the farmers were out in their paddocks in atticipation of some good falls. No doubt today they will be busily ploughing and sowing. It won't take long before we hopefully start to see  the paddocks turning green instead of the brown that we have been used to during our long hot summer. When we stopped to change drivers, I noticed some little lambs frollicking. The older sheep were just grazing and oblivious to the   4 little ones. It was lovely just watching them for a few minutes.
Already lots of little weeds are poking their heads through in my garden beds. We will be ordering some mulch next week so hopefully we can suffocate some of the little blighters before they come up.  The flowers of the Blood Iris that came up a few weeks ago have now died off and the large leaves are now taking shape. I have some self sown flower seedlings appearing too, I think they are stocks, which I absolutley love, so I will be able to plant them out when they get a bit larger.

Not a very good picture of the lambs but you can see how dry things are.

Back to front. The flowers first and now the leaves. Plus weeds.
