Workhorses

These two gentle giants worked all day providing rides around the venue at the Dowerin Field Day. I have always had a soft spot for Clydesdale horses, aren't they adorable?  These are my contribution to Eileen's Saturday Critters

House Guest

Meet Buffy, he was my house guest for a night last week while his mum had a night away. After initially sitting by the front door waiting to see if she was coming back for him, he quickly settled in, but was ever so excited when mum did finally come back to get him. Needless to say he made himself quite at home.

Later that same day.........
If you think I am going to sleep outside on the patio you are in for a shock

Skywatching

My aim was to catch the parrots as they were gathering in the bottlebrush tree but by the time I raced inside to get the camera, they had departed. This is the best I could do today.

Relics at Ravensthorpe Museum

A quick stop off at Ravensthorpe, on the way to Esperance, found us having a look through the museum. I would have loved to have spent more time looking at the items that have been saved from the scrap heap for this interesting look into the past.

Saddles, harness, bellows and bits from the stables

Who can remember the old dentists chairs like this one.

Printing Press

Telephone Box, all but extinct since mobile phones

There was a little house all set up, these are some of the rooms as they would have used.  These old Singer  Treadle Sewing Machines are still going strong, they seem to last forever

A few kitchen utensils, scales, meat mincer, grater, mixing bowl, rolling pin too,  and Bon Ami to keep pots and pans spic and span

A windup gramophone in the lounge room, bring on the sing along

Wildflowers in Wongan Hills

The spate of warm weather we have been having has hastened the appearance of various wildflowers in the area. A bushwalk close to home  gave me an opportunity to snap a few as they start to colour the otherwise dry bushland. Some good heavy rain last night will see more coming out in the coming weeks. I can't tell you the names of all these, all I know is that they look pretty. I am attempting to learn more of the botanical names, but trouble is, in one ear, out the other, if you can relate to that. As you can see in the photos there are 3 distinct soil types in this small area of bush, from white sand, to yellow sand and then the gravelly rock type soil which gives us such a diverse array of wildflowers.

Walk along the white sandy track, with the wheat paddocks in the distance

Up another track and it is yellowish sand

Now we are headed back towards home and at the back of the hospital, canola crops in the background, dead trees didn't survive last summer's searing heat

Pretty everlastings growing in the rocky area

Houses in the distance, we are not lost

Ant mounds and a large fungi along with a lone pink and grey galah  keeping watch were spotted along the way, numerous other birds were enjoying the morning but they were too quick for me.

Fences

Nothing fancy, just functional  country fences. These were taken on the way home on Wednesday. So many times I have driven past this old empty house and I was determined to get a pic of it with its  surrounding wheat crop and rusty gate.

Weekend Reflections

I captured these reflections during a walk at Gingin. The walk trail led through an area of paperbark trees along the Gingin Brook.  A lot of tannin in the water gave some beautiful colour on a bright sunny day.

I hope you enjoyed this little stroll with me, other than resizing these photos I have not enhanced them, the colours are as they were on that day.

Skywatching

At Observatory  Point,  Esperance WA

On the other side of the point, a pod of dolphins were spotted, it was worth getting wet and blown away by the wind, you have to look closely to spot them.

Kondinin Fences

Kondinin is a small town we passed through on our way to Esperance recently. A couple of fences were worthy of an entry in Good Fences , well not so much the fence, but what's behind the fence is what caught my eye.

This couple made with mosaics were in the Kondinin Community Arts House

A bushranger, wearing an old Fremantle Dockers  (Australian Rules Team ) jumper, along with the sign posts to various Australian towns and Cities

The beautiful yellow acacia here is the star attraction

Most country towns have a mural and these fences are stock standard

I showed this church in an earlier post, but seeing it has a fence around it, why not again
